Some more journal ideas...
For those of you struggling to find things to write about in your journals, here are some more ideas for you:
- Keep a journal of any television you watch which demonstrates any of the conventions of tragedy. For each entry, explain which elements of tragedy are present.
- Re-write a traditional fairytale to include all of the traditional elements of a tragedy
- Find a newspaper article which sensationalises a tragic event and annotate to explain why it has done so
- Choose a selection of the “critical quotations” which we have used in class and write a paragraph on each explaining whether you agree or disagree with the sentiment expressed
- Decide which three of your favourite characters from film, television or books best fit the stereotype of a tragic hero and write a paragraph for each explaining why you think this

Tragedy and the Common Man
Choose one quotation from Miller’s ‘Tragedy and the Common Man’ that you think is particularly interesting and explain how it fits or challenges your view of tragedy, as well as relating it to Death of a Salesman.
